I-9 Update is No Update Now

Until recently employers could be penalized by failing to use the current version of the form used to document the employer’s verification of their employees’ eligibility to work in the United States.  However, that has changed.  The US Customs and Immigration Service has announced that the current I-9 form with its expiration date of August 31, 2012, will not after all expire on that date.

At least for now.

Until further notice, employers should continue using the Form I-9 currently available on the forms section of http://www.uscis.gov. This form should continue to be used even after the OMB control number expiration date of August 31, 2012 has passed. USCIS will provide updated information about the new version of the Form I-9 as it becomes available.  www.USCIS.gov
