Your first impression is everything, especially to a future employer. No matter how many times you hear it, it’s the truth. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you should look professional and polished regardless of the type of job you’re seeking. This rule goes for everyone, no matter what job you’re applying for, from manufacturing to executives. Your posture, your facial expression and your clothing are the first cues you give to a recruiter about who you are as an employee.
Don’t wear jeans, sweatshirts, baggy clothes, flip flops, or anything casual. If the clothing can be worn to the gym, the beach, or lounging around the house, you shouldn’t wear it.You also want to avoid bright, flashy colors or jewelry. Avoid anything too bright or flashy that will distract the hiring manager.
DO wear business appropriate attire. For men, this could be a button up, slacks, khakis, a tie or a sweater. For women, this could be a blouse, dress pants, heels, or a longer skirt.
Here are some additional tips to ace your interview and land that job. Don’t be late. Always research the company before the interview, and know what they do. Don’t chew gum during the interview.
