There’s a little bit of nostalgia on social media these days with various versions of the “Fifty Nifty United States” song many of us learned in elementary school. If you sang it in school, you remember the song ends by eager students naming their home state as the best of the lot.
If you’re in the process of looking for a new job, you might think the grass is greener in another state, or that there are more opportunities on the other side of the country or in another area altogether.
But take a moment to consider some of what makes Massachusetts a great place, why so many people choose to move here and live here and make their careers and families in the Bay State, and you might change your tune!
- Outstanding educational opportunities. If you have a family, or are considering starting one in the future, you might not realize that education is highly valued in Massachusetts. We’re not just talking about our Ivy League schools — everyone knows Harvard and MIT are based here — but lower-level education standards are incredibly high and have great support. The educational system for kids is among the highest ranked in the country and our students are eager to graduate, as evidenced by a dropout rate of less than 4%, less than half the national average. Our teachers are dedicated to making sure all our kids succeed!
- History surrounds us. If you’re a history buff or just want to know more about the United States, you can’t do much better than living in Massachusetts! We’re home to Plymouth Rock, one of the most important landmarks in our nation’s history, as well as the site of the Boston Tea Party and the Salem Witch Trials. Instead of just reading about these events in books, when you live in Massachusetts, you can actually go see these locations and learn about them from talented historians and dedicated educators who bring history to life! With 191 national landmarks, we rank second in the country for the highest concentration of must-see stops for history buffs and patriots.
- Our healthcare system. Our healthcare system in not outstanding at present. Steward Hospitals is in bankruptcy and the state is overseeing the five hospitals. We do have an excellent government health system, Mass Health, for those of low income who qualify. But I wouldn’t tout healthcare right now. We do have easy access to year round outdoor activities from Cape Cod beaches to the Appalachian Trail in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts. It does have access to sports at all levels:professional teams in Massachusetts include Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. Nearby, in Rhode Island, professional teams include the Providence Bruins, ( the minor league affiliate of the Boston Bruins), and the Rhode Island CV who are set to compete in the second tier of American soccer and will officially begin play in 2024. The world renowned Boston Symphony performs every summer at its outdoor home, Tanglewood, 8 miles from the New York State border.
- We have a great job market and excellent employment opportunities in growing industries. We are a hotbed of activity! Massachusetts was singled out by US News and World Report for having a thriving growth industry when it comes to jobs in the education, healthcare and manufacturing sectors, with computer and electronic production as a particular strongpoint for our employment opportunities. CBS News also ranked Massachusetts as the number one overall state to live in, thanks to our prioritizing of education and health, the number of job and economic opportunities here and our high qualities of life and safety. We have something for everyone — including you!
Whatever you’re looking for in a job market, a new career, a home, a social life, even in your professional sports teams, you can find it in Massachusetts! We have outstanding abilities to develop your career and add to your skills, to enrich your life and improve the quality of your life and there are endless opportunities for advancement in the industry of your choice. What other state can offer all that?
